Academic Tutoring
What does an Academic Tutor do?
An academic tutor supports his/her mentee by giving academic advice, sharing resources, encouraging growth, and caring about their students’ success. Our mission is to empower students by encouraging them to cultivate their unique skills, strategies, and strengths necessary to successfully navigate higher education and the world of work. Academic tutors are role models, coaches, and guides.
Our academic tutors strive to achieve these goals in multiple ways, including:
→ Role-modeling study habits and strategies, while guiding students in time management, note-taking, reading textbooks, active listening, and academic planning.
→ Offering supportive and collaborative learning environments where students feel safe to interact, have an opportunity to make friends and learn from each other.
→ Assisting students in advocating for themselves in academic environments that are not always equitable, accessible, or transparent.
→ Providing assistance with statements of purpose, letters of recommendation, job applications, personal essays, research papers, and course content.
Joshua Feld
Tutor
Joshua Feld joins us just after graduating from the Brandeis MAT program, where he successfully obtained his Bachelor’s in Politics & Sociology, with his Masters in Teaching, totaling four years for both degrees! Joshua, or as some call him Josh, is a Special Education teacher with the Landmark School up in Prides Crossing, Massachusetts. He specializes in teaching Study Skills courses. He enjoys building curriculum, which challenges his students to break out of their academic comfort zone. Outside of work, Josh is an avid indoor spinner, golfer, and lover of nature. Hailing from Queens, New York, Josh’s NY accent is most definitely unique to the Massachusetts area. We are glad to have him on board as he is making Massachusetts his home.
