“During Psychology of Student Learning, I identify myself again through the whole summer course and start to view my future students in a new and more comprehensive perspective”
“I thought [the Professor’s] demeanor and way of relating to the class was excellent; she is definitely knowledgeable about the subject matter. I thought the integration of short videos into the power point presentations were helpful and engaging”
“I really appreciated the balance that [the Professor] struck in all facets of the course. Six hours of class time each week has the potential to be mind-numbing, but she made it highly engaging and interesting, and fostered a classroom environment in which all students were comfortable speaking, contributing, and testing ideas. Most importantly, I learned a lot of valuable and practical information and ways of thinking without feeling like I was drowning in material”
“[The Professor’s] PowerPoints were excellent. I particularly appreciated her use visuals, memes, and images since they allowed me to connect the psychology concept to a more familiar visual. She also did a good job explaining some complicated psychological concepts in a way that was easy to understand for a person who had never studied psychology before. In addition, [the Professor] was very effective in leading interesting, fun, and thought provoking conversations and activities”
“I enjoyed the relevance and the application of the information that was taught throughout this course. It really helped me understand the psychology behind students’ learning”
“I particularly appreciated the [course text]. And generally learning about what teens are dealing with or why they behave a certain way was interesting and helpful”
“I really enjoyed the breadth of examples we were exposed to. I found them stimulating and informative, and I appreciated being exposed to multiple ways of thinking about student and instructor psychology”
“I like this class because teacher accept student suggestions”
“The book choices were excellent…I appreciated the openness to discussions and digressions, [the Professor] was a wonderful role model for student centered teaching”
“This class was so great- I got to learn and do interesting things, but the work load was super manageable (much appreciated in a condensed summer term) and the discussion was awesome. [The Professor] has a great personality and it make this 8:30am class so much more enjoyable than it would’ve been otherwise”
“Learning materials match the course’s core”
“[The Professor] is a great teacher, it was my pleasure to be in her class”
“I like the class in general. Learning a student’s psychology could be very helpful for the future teacher. I also appreciate that the course has a self-care study for the student teacher”
“The combination of of social science, psychology, and social justice was very helpful”
“[The Professor] put forth a wonderful combination of teaching-specific materials that were concrete and applicable to our work as educators, and grounded it in adolescent psychology. Our classes were very content-heavy, and our homework was relatively light. This was perfect because it allowed me to avoid feelings of stress while in class and to engage with learning fully during our sessions. The paper assignments, similarly, combined some intense analysis of a text and research with personal reflection. ALL of these aspects were helpful. [The Professor] is a brilliant professor who (I imagine) left her comfort zone in traditional psych to make accommodations for her MAT student audience. She completely nailed it. GO [Professor]!”
“As we prepare for the teacher research aspect of our MAT program, I greatly appreciated the emphasis on research in lectures. Very informative and a great complement to my other courses”
“The course was incredibly helpful in regards to understanding adolescent psychology. [The Professor] was a wonderful instructor – very engaging and very good at explaining ideas”
